Back in 1986, Herb Gray, with his extensive experience at Bell Telephone, decided to carve out his own path. With a deep understanding of communication technologies, he laid the foundation for Hampton Roads Communications. Family has always been at the heart of HRCT. In 1987, Herb’s son, Doug Gray, joined the company, marking the beginning of a legacy. At just 18, Doug embarked on a learning adventure under his father’s guidance and other seasoned Bell retirees. Their mentorship equipped Doug with invaluable insights and skills, setting the stage for his future leadership within HRCT.

Fast forward to the late 1990s and early 2000s, HRCT expanded its team with talented individuals like Rob and Craig. The addition of these dedicated professionals was key to growing HRCT’s Voice Department. Rob, who joined in 2003 as a contractor, quickly became a full-time employee and eventually rose to Senior Telecom Technical Supervisor. His dedication over 20 years speaks volumes about the nurturing work environment HRCT provides.

The year 2010 marked another turning point for HRCT. Herb and Doug partnered with Eric, who brought a wealth of knowledge to establish the IT Division. This strategic move allowed HRCT to offer a comprehensive range of technology solutions. Eric, in his role as Vice President, played a crucial role in integrating IT systems with business telephone solutions, broadening HRCT’s client base.
